A student-led art exhibition titled Kashatat is drawing strong public interest at Sharjah Heritage Days, offering visitors a fresh and creative take on heritage through contemporary student work.
Presented by students of the College of Fine Arts at University of Sharjah, the exhibition features a wide range of artworks, including handcrafted models, traditional-inspired costumes and mixed-media pieces. Many of the installations are made from simple materials such as cardboard, woven mats and recycled paper, reflecting both creativity and sustainability.
The exhibition stands out for its cultural diversity. International students studying at the college have blended elements from their home cultures with the heritage of Sharjah and the wider UAE, producing designs that reflect cultural dialogue and shared human stories. Visitors can explore fashion pieces inspired by different traditions, alongside heritage-themed artworks that highlight similarities between cultures.
Adding a modern layer to the display, the exhibition also includes digital designs and short videos featuring well-known global figures, produced using artificial intelligence tools. The works demonstrate how traditional ideas can be reimagined through new technology without losing their cultural roots.
According to the students, the exhibition reflects the structure of the academic programme at the College of Fine Arts. In the first year, students focus on core artistic skills before specialising in fields such as fine arts, fashion design, visual communication or interior design. Graduation projects are then developed by building on earlier work, refining concepts and introducing new ideas and samples.
The participation of the College of Fine Arts in Sharjah Heritage Days highlights the role of young creatives in keeping heritage alive, presenting it in ways that resonate with today’s audiences while celebrating openness and cultural exchange.
