Sharjah Institute for Heritage Celebrates Moroccan and Andalusian Heritage to the Rhythm of Melody and Music

05 May 2026

In a vibrant cultural scene, the Sharjah Institute for Heritage evoked the depth of civilizational ties between Morocco and Andalusia through an evening that brought together thought and art, word and melody. Held ضمن its participation in the Rabat International Book and Publishing Fair, the event presented a living model of the convergence and renewal of heritage.

Andalusian Heritage… A Renewed Connection
As part of the accompanying cultural program, the Institute, in collaboration with the National Center for Andalusian Music (Tarab Al-Ala) in Rabat, organized an evening titled “Andalusian and Moroccan Heritage… A Connecting Link.” The session featured a distinguished group of researchers and academics and was moderated by Dr. Yahya Lotf Al-Abbali. Discussions explored the cultural and historical interactions between the two spheres, highlighting the shared continuities that have shaped cultural identity.

A Dialogue Between Word and Melody
The evening stood out for blending scholarly discourse with artistic expression, as intellectual contributions intertwined with authentic Andalusian rhythms. This created a vivid tableau reflecting the depth of Moroccan-Andalusian heritage, showcasing its aesthetic richness and its ability to express collective memory.

Publications Documenting Folk Memory
The event also witnessed the signing of several specialized publications on Andalusian heritage, including “Literature of the Common People” by Dr. Mohammed Al-Omarti and “Proverbs, Zajal Poetry, and the Tunes of the Common People” by Dr. Said Benhamada—an initiative that reinforces the role of academic research in documenting this cultural legacy.

Art Speaks Where Words Fall Short
The evening concluded with an Andalusian musical performance by the ensemble of the National Center for Andalusian Music, where melodies resonated with the spirit of the venue, embodying the continuity of this ancient art and affirming its role as a living bridge between past and present.

Ongoing Participation and a Diverse Program
The Sharjah Institute for Heritage continues its participation in the fair through a series of scholarly sessions, intellectual seminars, and publication signings—reflecting the vitality of cultural engagement and reaffirming the Institute’s commitment to preserving heritage and promoting its global presence.
