(SIH) Receives Khorfakkan University Delegation to Explore Academic Cooperation
The Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH) welcomed a delegation from Khorfakkan University on Tuesday to discuss ways of strengthening academic cooperation, exchanging scientific and professional expertise, and developing joint initiatives in cultural heritage and tour guiding. The visit aimed to support educational programmes and bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical application.
Academic Cooperation and Exchange of Expertise
The delegation was received by Dr Khalid Al Shehhi, Director of Academic Administration at SIH, and members of the department’s team. The visit included a coordination meeting to discuss mechanisms for involving the Institute’s experts in delivering lectures and practical activities as part of the History Department’s academic courses at Khorfakkan University, particularly in the tour-guiding track. The initiative seeks to enrich educational content with specialised expertise and strengthen integration between theoretical learning and practical experience.
Field Visits and Heritage Knowledge
Both sides also explored opportunities to organise field visits for university students, enabling them to learn about the Institute’s areas of work and benefit from its expertise in cultural heritage and social history. Such visits would enrich students’ academic knowledge, develop their professional skills, and support their preparation for careers in heritage-related fields and tour guiding.
Familiarisation Tour of the Institute
The visit included a tour of the Institute’s facilities, during which the delegation was introduced to its key activities and areas of work in safeguarding, documenting and preserving cultural heritage. The delegation also learned about the Institute’s efforts to transmit heritage knowledge and strengthen its presence within academic and educational settings.
The visit forms part of SIH’s efforts to expand its partnerships with academic institutions, promote scientific and educational cooperation, and facilitate the exchange of specialised expertise. These efforts support the preparation of qualified professionals who can contribute to safeguarding and sustaining cultural heritage
