Sharjah, February 7, 2026

On the third day of Sharjah Heritage Days, the Emirati folk arts troupe “Al-Ayyalah” captivated visitors with its diverse performances, showcasing traditional dances and authentic folk chants. The troupe offered a lively spectacle that reflected the depth of Emirati heritage and its distinctive artistic spirit.

Al-Ayyalah: A Cultural Legacy
Ali Khamis Al-‘Ashr Al-Suwaidi explained that Al-Ayyalah is one of the UAE’s most historic arts, originally performed during times of war and victory. In the modern era, it has become an essential part of weddings, festivals, national celebrations, and public holidays. Al-Suwaidi added that the troupe has been participating in Sharjah Heritage Days since its very first edition, 23 years ago.

Drums as a Core Element
Al-Ayyalah performances revolve around chanting poems, verses, and folk songs, with drums serving as a central element. A poet leads the recitation while the troupe members—typically 30 to 40 artists arranged in two facing rows—echo the words, creating a powerful and engaging artistic experience for the audience.
