Al Kindi: Union Pledge Renews Loyalty to the Nation… Preserving Heritage Is a Responsibility Passed from Generation to Generation

18 Jul 2026

His Excellency Abubakr Al Kindi, Director of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, affirmed that the Union Pledge is a deeply rooted national occasion that recalls one of the greatest milestones in the history of the United Arab Emirates. It renews commitment to the values upon which the Union was founded—foremost among them unity, loyalty, and national belonging—which have formed the foundation of the nation’s remarkable achievements and continue to inspire the UAE’s ongoing journey of development and leadership.

In a statement marking the occasion, Al Kindi said that celebrating the Union Pledge goes beyond commemorating a pivotal historical event; it reflects a renewed national awareness of the country's history and the achievements of its leaders, while reinforcing a culture of loyalty to the homeland and its wise leadership in line with the UAE’s vision for a more prosperous, sustainable, and pioneering future.

A Renewed National Responsibility

Al Kindi explained that commemorating this national occasion also means renewing a shared responsibility each year: safeguarding the achievements established by the Founding Fathers, translating the principles of the Union into everyday practices that strengthen national identity, support sustainable development, and preserve the nation’s cultural heritage, which remains one of the defining pillars of the Emirati identity.

Heritage: The Nation’s Living Memory

He noted that the Sharjah Institute for Heritage continues to fulfill its cultural and national mission based on its firm belief that cultural heritage is the repository of the nation’s collective memory, a living record of its societal values, and a bridge connecting the past with the present while providing future generations with strong roots that reinforce their connection to their national identity.

Al Kindi added: “At the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, we renew our pledge to remain faithful to this covenant and to draw from it the inspiration to continue our mission of safeguarding the UAE’s cultural heritage and passing it on to future generations, firmly believing that preserving heritage is, in essence, preserving national identity and protecting the memory of the nation.”

Honouring the Past, Confident in the Future

Al Kindi concluded by reaffirming that the Sharjah Institute for Heritage will continue its mission of serving the nation’s cultural landscape and safeguarding the UAE’s heritage. He renewed the Institute’s pledge of loyalty to the United Arab Emirates and its wise leadership, stressing that remaining faithful to the Union Pledge is a tribute to a glorious past, a celebration of a present defined by continued achievement, and a commitment to a future shaped by ambition and confidence—ensuring that the UAE remains a global model of unity, development, and excellence.
