Al-Rawi Camp in Sharjah… an open workshop revives the charm of the folk tale.

11 Aug 2025

The activities of the Al-Rawi Summer Camp 2025 continue at the Arab Heritage Center in the University City of Sharjah, where participants arrive with wide smiles and curiosity that precedes their steps. The children are not content with merely listening to stories—they become part of them, writing their chapters with their own hands and painting their features with their colors.

Organized by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, the camp offers a vibrant little world of creativity. Its activities vary between the handicrafts corner, where threads and fabrics are transformed into traditional shapes, the visual arts corner overflowing with colors, and workshops on recycling and model-making. The program also adds special workshops that give children wider opportunities to express themselves and discover new skills in an atmosphere full of fun and learning.

In one corner, a group of children gathers around the story of Ibn Battuta, traveling with him between cities and seas, before moving on to the “Design Your Travel Booklet” workshop to tell their own stories. In the “Hourglass” workshop, they learn how time used to be measured, while the “Sailing Ship Painting” workshop reflects the spirit of adventure within them.

Dr. Abdulaziz Al Musallam, President of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, praised the children’s remarkable engagement in the fourth edition of the Al-Rawi Summer Camp. He explained that the high turnout reflects the program’s success in attracting young people to the world of heritage and folk tales, reinforcing the presence of oral storytelling in their consciousness through modern and appealing methods. He stressed that the continuation of such activities demonstrates the Institute’s commitment to nurturing children’s talents and refining their skills, thereby strengthening their connection to cultural heritage.

Aisha Al-Hussan Al-Shamsi, Director of the Arab Heritage Center, described the camp as an open workshop for creativity. She added: “Here, we create little storytellers. Every workshop, every activity, and every child’s laughter is a step toward a generation that knows its heritage and expresses it in today’s language.”

As the closing approaches on August 14, participants prepare to crown their journey with the “Explorer’s Medal,” which will remain around their necks as a keepsake of a summer spent among stories and arts, and a dream of one day becoming great storytellers who carry the heritage of the UAE to the world.
