“Maqeed Sharjah” Camp Reinforces Heritage and National Values Among Children
The Sharjah Institute for Heritage launched today, Monday, the activities of its summer camp “Maqeed Sharjah”, designed for children aged 7 to 12. The camp runs from July 14 to 24 at the Institute’s headquarters, with a daily program from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM. It aims to instill heritage values and strengthen national identity among the younger generation through a variety of interactive activities that combine learning and entertainment.

The Sharjah Institute for Heritage inaugurated its summer camp “Maqeed Sharjah” today, Monday, targeting children aged 7 to 12. Held from July 14 to 24 at the Institute, the camp runs daily from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM and seeks to instill heritage values and foster national identity in children through interactive activities that mix fun and learning.
Instilling Awareness of National Heritage in Children
Aisha Ghabish, Director of Events and Activities at the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, explained that the camp is organized as part of the Institute’s vision to instill awareness of national heritage in children, presenting it in modern ways that cater to their interests and stimulate their curiosity, giving them a real opportunity to discover elements of Emirati identity in an interactive and enjoyable manner.
Diverse Activities, Workshops, and Educational Trips
Marwa Jassim Al Mazmi, Coordinator of the Events and Activities Department at the Institute, noted that this year’s camp is held under the name “Maqeed Sharjah,” a term referring to the place where people traditionally spent the summer. She highlighted that the program includes a variety of activities, interactive workshops, and educational trips, including the opening play “Towards Fifty”, workshops on the desert environment, and puppet theater performances.
First Day Activities: Theater Performance and Introductory Workshop
On the first day, children enjoyed a theatrical performance titled “Towards Fifty: From the Glow of Pearls to the Light of Space” presented by the Quarter Century Center for Theater and Performing Arts, taking them on an engaging journey through key moments in UAE history. The day also featured a workshop introducing the Bedouin environment, the recording of a “Maqeed Voice” podcast episode, and an entertaining puppet show.
Interactive Workshops and Field Visits
In the coming days, the camp will continue with interactive workshops such as spinning and sadu weaving, storytelling sessions like “Jewel of the Story” and “Gems of Tales”, traditional cooking workshops, as well as educational field visits to the Sharjah Falcons Club, Camelicious Factory, and the Quarter Century Foundation.
Closing Ceremony and Participant Recognition
The camp will conclude on Thursday, July 24, with a closing ceremony featuring a discussion titled “Building a Generation to Make Us Proud”, storytelling performances such as “The Magical World of Tales”, an open interactive session with the children, followed by honoring the participants and distributing certificates.
