Sharjah Institute for Heritage Concludes Its Cultural Event "In the Shade of the Palm Tree" and Honors the Participants
The Sharjah Institute for Heritage concluded today, Thursday, the cultural event “In the Shade of the Palm Tree: Heritage and Story”, which it organized with the participation of representatives from the Gulf countries and the Arab Republic of Egypt. The event also honored workshop teams and collaborating entities in recognition of their cultural contributions and outstanding efforts in making the event a success.
A Celebration of the Event’s Success
In her speech during the closing ceremony, Aisha Obaid Ghabesh, Director of Events at the Institute, expressed pride in the success of the event. She emphasized that the palm tree was not just a theme for the program, but a symbol of shared values and authenticity, reflected in the cultural events held in Sharjah.
Honoring Participants and Collaborators
His Excellency Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, accompanied by His Excellency Abu Bakr Al-Kindi, Director of the Institute, honored the participants from the Gulf countries and Egypt, as well as the various workshop teams and collaborating entities. The recognition came in appreciation of their cultural efforts and valuable contributions to the success of the event. A group photo was then taken of the honorees to commemorate this final moment, which symbolized the spirit of collaboration and mutual appreciation.
In a special gesture, Dr. Al-Musallam received a commemorative award from the sisterly Sultanate of Oman on behalf of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, in recognition of his prominent role in preserving and promoting Arab cultural heritage both regionally and internationally.
Heritage with a Message
Dr. Al-Musallam emphasized that the event embodies the Institute’s vision of using heritage symbols—such as the palm tree—to revive cultural values and enhance identity awareness. He added that the palm tree stands as a living witness to the region’s history and remains a source of inspiration across various aspects of life.
He also noted that the wide participation from guests outside the UAE reflects Sharjah’s growing stature on the Arab cultural scene. He highlighted the Institute’s success in building bridges of cultural cooperation and exchange among different nations.

For his part, the Director of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage stated that this event continues the Institute’s approach to strengthening Gulf and Arab presence in its annual programs, and to solidifying the concepts of cultural participation and exchange within a dynamic and interactive framework.

The “In the Shade of the Palm Tree” event is part of the World Cultural Heritage Weeks program organized by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage. The initiative aims to introduce the heritage of various Arab and friendly foreign countries through live performances, workshops, exhibitions, and educational gatherings. These activities contribute to enhancing civilizational communication and promoting cultural openness to the world.
