(SIH) Revives "Bisharat Al-Qayz" in Dibba Al-Hisn with an Event Celebrating the Bulbul Bird
The Sharjah Institute for Heritage revived the Emirati folk heritage associated with natural seasons by organizing the “Herald of Al-Qayz: The Bulbul Bird” event at its Dibba Al-Hisn branch. The event brought together a distinguished group of local residents, government employees, senior citizens, and heritage and culture enthusiasts as part of the Institute’s ongoing efforts to safeguard the UAE’s cultural heritage and promote awareness of its environmental and cultural significance.
The Bulbul: A Seasonal Symbol in the Memory of Ancestors
The event, organized by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage – Dibba Al-Hisn Branch, featured a cultural session moderated by media presenter Ayoub Al Badri, while Dr. Khalid Suleiman Bin Juma Al Hindasi delivered a lecture exploring the concept of “Bisharat Al-Qayz” (Herald of the Summer Season) as one of the traditional seasonal indicators that guided ancestors in recognizing the changing of seasons and the arrival of the summer harvest period. He also highlighted the significance of the bulbul bird in Emirati folklore and the symbolic meanings associated with its appearance in the collective memory of the community.
Heritage Corners and Interactive Experiences
The event also featured a variety of heritage-themed activities, including an Arabic coffee corner, a Safafah (traditional palm weaving) corner introducing one of the UAE’s authentic handicrafts, and a live painting session by a visual artist depicting the bulbul bird. In addition, a heritage-themed photo studio allowed visitors to capture memorable moments in an atmosphere inspired by the UAE’s rich cultural traditions.

At the conclusion of the event, Asma Al Kabouri, Head of the Activities and Events Section at the Sharjah Institute for Heritage – Dibba Al-Hisn Branch, honoured the lecturer, participants, and supporting organizations in recognition of their valuable contributions to the success of the event and their role in promoting the presence of cultural heritage within the community
