(SIH) Brings to Life the Story of Al Dhaid Fort: A Living Memory of Place and a Witness to History
The Sharjah Institute for Heritage organised a lecture titled “Al Dhaid Fort: The Memory of Place and a Witness to History,” delivered by Dr Rashid Al Mazrouei and attended by a number of heritage enthusiasts and researchers. The lecture explored the fort’s historical and heritage significance, highlighting its role as a living witness to the history of Al Dhaid and the transformations the city has undergone over time.
The Fort: A City’s Collective Memory
Organised by the Institute’s Al Dhaid branch at the Al Dhaid Literary Council, the lecture highlighted the fort’s deep connection with the memory of the place and its people. As a historic landmark, the fort embodies important cultural and human values, reflecting aspects of the past that have helped shape the city’s identity and distinctive heritage.
Heritage: A Bridge Between Generations
The lecture also examined the importance of historical landmarks in documenting the relationship between people and their surroundings, as well as preserving the evidence embedded in the collective memory of cities. These efforts help raise awareness of their civilisational value and enable younger generations to discover their history and cultural roots.
Strengthening Awareness of National Identity
The lecture forms part of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness of the historical and heritage landmarks across the Emirate of Sharjah, reinforce national identity, and strengthen the community’s connection with its cultural heritage. These initiatives contribute to preserving the historical memory of cities and passing it on to future generations
