Puppetry is a form of theatre in which the main characters of stage performances are puppets, marionettes, shadows or other similar figures. Ancient Indian and Chinese literary sources, dating back to approximately the beginning of the current era, appear to refer to the use of puppet figures for religious and funerary rituals. Moreover, several legends and myths are based on the symbolic projection of a shadow. Such elements do not however allow us to establish precisely the geographical and historical origin of this form of theatre which, since ancient times, has narrated the stories of men, gods and heroes through an immediate and sensory language.

The exhibition “Zayed” is the main exhibition in the “Sharjah Heritage Days” in its 16th session. It is a historical and documentary exhibition that celebrates the personality of the founding leader and the symbolic leader, the union maker and the builder of the United Arab Emirates, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. May God rest his soul, in line with the centenary of Sheikh Zayed, which coincides with the Year of Zayed (2018).

The experience of the creative Saudi plastic artist Abdulaziz Khalil Al-Mubarazi Al-Shawish represents an important element in documenting the history of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, and their rich heritage through 36 paintings, in which Al-Mubarazi celebrated the aesthetics of the heritage and historical place in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, its enchanting fragrance, and its captivating heritage, and showed it in its splendid His pictures, and the most beautiful forms in the paintings that he created with a high artistic spirit, and an elaborate vision of the spirit of the place that emerges in various pictures on the sides of the streets, in the depths of old houses, old forts, fortified castles, markets, beaches, and even on sand dunes.

The Sharjah Institute for Heritage administrates a number of museums concerned with cultural heritage across the Emirate of Sharjah. The private museums and the Traditional Crafts Museum in the city of Khorfakkan were established on October 18, 2020, while Kalba’s private museums were established on April 9, 2021, containing archaeological and heritage collections. These museums translate the Institute’s mission of safeguarding heritage and preserving its identity, as well as highlighting contribution of museums to heritage preservation, through specialized programmes, cultural activities and exhibitions.

Many Emirati researchers have been engaging in the UAE heritage, stirring every inch to collect it, whether form human beings or from records. They followed various methods and styles that depended on each one’s capabilities, diligence, equipment and heritage knowledge. Among masters of heritage who dug out the Emirati memory to came out with the repertoires of knowledge and arts, and restored the memory of the place, is a group of researchers who though they passed away, they left a great impact and an immortal and indelible imprint in the cultural heritage. 

Cermaics

Ceramic are made from three different combustion methods: glazed ceramics, fermented ceramics and black ceramics, which uses a very old traditional method for its manufacture, depends on pine wood, where the pottery is placed to burn and is colored by the natural smoke of burning wood. 

The 25th January represents a significant occasion in the history of the Emirate of Sharjah, when His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, assumed his position as the ruler in 1972.

The word "hanji" means Korean paper, which is made from plants with strong fibers, using a unique formation, not used by any other country. Amy Lee is the premier researcher and practitioner of hanji in the English-speaking world, having established the first American hanji studio in 2010 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Cultural heritage has always been on the minds of many. It is an integral part of our identity, and what shapes us as a society. For today’s youth, it is perceived as what defines their parents and grandparents generations. The dilemma in how to ensure its continuity and transfer to the next generation.
